Using a digital projector & stepping outside with moon light star visibility, we’ll trace constellations, star myths, and celestial stories through the lens of art and symbolism.

Participants will discover how the geometry of constellations mirrors sacred design and how artists, from indigenous storytellers to Van Gogh, have captured the night in form and colour.

ODEION STRING QUARTET with Nonzwakazi and Megan-Geoffrey Prins

Hendrik Hofmeyr’s Of Darkness and the Heart for string quartet and soprano stands as one of the pinnacles of the extraordinary output of this formidable South African composer. Set to poetry by Fiona Zerbst, the work is brought vividly to life by the exceptional soprano Nonzwakazi. Dark, richly hued textures in the string writing form an emotive foundation for the vocal line, which soars above the ensemble while remaining in constant, expressive dialogue with it. Though rarely performed, this unique and masterfully crafted work weaves an immersive and emotionally compelling musical tapestry.

Balancing the programme is one of the great chamber works of the repertoire. The Odeion String Quartet is joined by Megan-Geoffrey Prins to perform Dvořák’s Piano Quintet in A major. Radiant with melodic generosity and infused with the composer’s unmistakable Czech spirit, the quintet offers warmth, vitality, and profound intimacy. Written over a century apart, these two works share a remarkable common thread. Each invites the listener into a deeply personal and inward musical world – music that lingers long after the final note.

The Odeion String Quartet, the resident string quartet based at the University of the Free State, welcomes the opportunity to share the stage with the extraordinary soprano Siphokazi (Nonzwakazi) Maphumulo, and the eminent pianist Megan-Geoffrey Prins.

Seun

Rooiwyn & Green Sigrettes – Kabaret

Hooked on Books Bumper Show for Primary School Children

For over 30 years, Hooked on Books has been inspiring South African children to fall in love with reading through dynamic educational theatre. This homegrown company travels to schools and festivals nationwide, dramatizing modern children’s books into lively, interactive performances. The Bumper Show features a mix of 5 books and is ideal for kids aged 6-12 years – although younger children seem to find the shows very entertaining too!

Audiences can look forward to 3 professional actors bringing stories such as I Am So Strong, My Teacher is a Diamond Thief, and The Wrong Shoes to life with acting, singing, dancing, and humour. Each tale ends on a cliffhanger, sparking curiosity and sending children rushing to libraries and bookstores to discover what happens next.

With clever audience participation, young viewers often deliver performances worthy of the stage themselves. These shows have remained joyful and popular for nearly three decades, becoming a vital part of South Africa’s literacy landscape. Whether in classrooms, libraries, or festivals, Hooked on Books continues to ignite imaginations and get “more noses into books.”

Expect big, heartfelt ballads, happy and dreamy tunes, Bianca and Kate’s rich vocal harmonies, and Heinrich’s signature, soul-stirring guitar work.

Come dream with us.
